This article concentrates on utterances that re-employ syntactic structures from a previous syntactic unit. It is asserted that from an on-line view on spoken syntax, they are better represented as structural latency. An already fixed grammatical structure stays disposable and can thus be utilized with one or more of its slots being filled by novel material. A diversity of cases of this specific kind of conversational symbiosis are debated. It is claimed that they should get a standard treatment. Some characteristics of the usual host/guest relationship are reviewed.
