This multimodal analysis explores (the sequential interactional analysis of) compliment sequence turns in everyday English face-to-face interactions. Gaze direction has a particular role in the output of both compliments and their responses. The goal of this study is to offer a description of how embodied actions get inserted into the design of social action formats for compliments.
