Drawing on Locher and Graham's (2010) interpersonal pragmatics, this paper discusses research on politeness, impoliteness and relational work in the context of computer-mediated communication. Underscoring the relational aspect of language, this paper is especially concerned with determining the links between politeness, facework and linguistic identity construction.
