Findings of a variationist inquiry of a community sample of speakers from Manhattan's Lower East Side are contrasted with a micro-analysis of the broad linguistic repertoire of a single African American speaker in New York City. The repertoire analysis shows the dynamic intersectional nature of speaker identity and the fluid boundaries between (African American English) ethnolect and (New York City English) dialect.
