This paper claims that, for threatened languages, confidential kinds of interaction become limited in manners that both foster and imperil the endangered language. This inconsistency becomes obvious when notions of “community” and “language” in connection to border-making practices are uncased across various discourse areas. Evidence stems from fieldwork in the Canadian Yukon Territory.
