Using Culpeper's (1996) impoliteness model and Wenger's (1998) Communities of Practice frame, this study argues that colleagues of an Italian restaurant in Hong Kong use job and relation-based speech in Facebook Status Updates after working hours and outside the workplace, thus relocating work issues and renegotiating power through impoliteness strategies imbued with Netspeak.
