This paper explores social formation of texts in digital settings and presents the concept of migrating literacies to address how urban youth materialize meaning via digitally designed grammars. A provisional definition of migrating literacies argues that digitally enabled text making contains social, technological, and semiotic opportunities for handling affiliations across discourse communities. Using ethnographic data, this paper explains the emergence of cultural remix via the molding of multimodal ensembles and the way they move throughout digital spaces.
