This cross-cultural generic study tries to seize the discourse structures and strategies of 160 applied linguistics conference abstracts from four world regions in terms of semantic units of Introduction, Method, and Findings and their Moves and Steps. Findings point to (dis)similarities chiefly deriving from the genre's idiosyncratic nature, presentation site, and western versus non-western, center versus outskirts, and theory- versus practice-focused cultures.
