Annotation

Unwished Australian meat processing jobs are progessively performed by employer-sponsored migrant Philippine workers on provisional long-stay visas. Though language is not a jobbing benchmark, and employees have few chances of exercising English at work or in the community, a high English language proficiency level is required to obtain permanent Australian residence. English language proficiency demands thus become a politically admissible manner of assuring a ‘ductile’ labor supply.
