This study examines how multilingual immigrant health care workers creatively wield their language skills to surmount linguistic barriers and efficiently interact with and nurse an old Kurdish inhabitant of a residential home for demented elderly in Sweden. Findings are reviewed in the light of novel calls on Swedish and Western care systems to adjust to the raised number of multilingual elderly in care facilities.
