This study indicates that Swedish universities' language policy documents, with respect to intertextuality, authorship and content analysis of the concepts of language practices and English as a lingua franca (ELF), firmly refer to official documents advocating the Swedish language (e.g., the Language Act 2009). Little attention is paid to actual language practices and the ELF concept is mainly employed for reporting the present situation without adequate directives as to how students and staff are to utilize English in their daily practices.
