Annotation

This study discusses two scholar-backed initiatives at Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal universities to effectively execute South Africa’s multilingual language policy fostering institutional (medium of instruction) status for nine African languages, English, and Afrikaans, aimed at settling enduring social injustices. It asserts that monitoring in education (cfr. Hymes, 1980) constitutes one way of contesting language inequity.
