Annotation

As a distinct Ibero-Romance language, Judezmo constitutes a second sub-branch of Romance encountered within the Balkans. It is of importance to Balkan linguistics due to its rather late Balkan entry in comparison to the other convergent languages, and given the relative social isolation of Judezmo-speaking Jewish communities in the area. Some Balkan Judezmo traits coincide with other Balkan languages, but others don't. There are also Judezmo dialects beyond the Balkans, and so, Judezmo offers a check for discerning convergence from coincidence.
