Annotation

This paper discusses the puzzler of the linguistic status of the Old French varieties employed within medieval northern French Jewish communities. Whilst the presence of an independent Judeo-French language or dialect is not confirmed, the Jewish vernacular sources are regarded as the voicing of a clearly Jewish linguistic repertoire molded by the cultural dynamics of French medieval Jewish life.
