Annotation

This linguistic landscape study elucidates institutional and private language use in since 1992 de facto independent Transnistria, as illustrated by signs in the republic's chiefly Russian-speaking capital Tiraspol. Though Transnistria is officially trilingual in Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian (Moldovan) written in Cyrillic script, most residents prefer Russian.
