Annotation

This ethnographic study of bilingual Estonian-Russian signage in Tallinn's linguistic landscape, where despite the official language policy fostering Estonian as the dominant language, “bottom-up multilingualism” is extensive, is repleted by qualitative data on the respectively negative and positive hybrid sign perceptions of Estonian- and Russian-speaking students. Languages' graphic representation in multilingual texts now and then contain creative forms generated by the blending of Latin and Cyrillic alphabets (“script-mixing”).
