Annotation

This study discusses how family language policy (FLP) and practices in an extended Gaelic-English family on the Scottish Isle of Skye socialise the children into language shift norms (especially fostered by paternal grandparents' language use), ending in children's little use of Gaelic. The paper also considers a potentially negative effect of the father's use of Gaelic in chastising his children.
