Annotation

Drawing from Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis (CDA) framework for parliamentary debates, this study explores the language of evaluation in recent Spanish pre-electoral debates as global semantic strategies of positive self-presentation and negative other-presentation to gain electoral votes. On the other hand, and in spite of their contrasting ideology, the two main parties both seem to uphold those policies that are more broadly credited in order not to emperil votes: public services and equalitarian social policies.
