Coverage of the territorially contested Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands by the China Daily unveils that in spite of the dispute's regional (Chinese-Japanese) nature distinct in-group/out-group categorizations are resorted to, discursively recategorizing intergroup relations. The results offer salient ideological insights of the ruling party state and its efforts to affecr intergroup comparisons.
