This paper expands the view of interest in variation within communities of practice, as the well-limitedness of linguistic and social notions (covering identity and language) is evermore challenged. It does so by examining British-born Greek-Cypriots' code-switching practices in the diverse settings of community meetings and a dinner. Intricate interactions occur between local and global variables comprising discourse types, gender, community-particular structures, and settings.
