Annotation

This paper discusses how one teacher in a mixed-ethnicity class at a Brussels Dutch-medium school often employs the creative, stylised language use one normally relates to younger speakers. The analysis underscores that whilst teacher stylisations soften discords between linguistic expectations and the classroom floor reality, they also preserve the school linguistic policy since they characterize nonstylised, nonaccented, and standard language use as common and awaited.
