Annotation

This study discusses the amount and distribution of metaphor used by Greek- and German-speaking English as a second language learners in their essay writing across A2 to C2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). General metaphor density and function sophistication increase with level and from B2 level on, metaphors are mainly open-class, more errors occur, and there is more L1 impact.
