Annotation

Besides examining unconventional word segmentation patterns in emerging Spanish-English bilingual students’ writing from first to third grade, this paper explores (dis)similarities between such patterns in Spanish and English. Hyposegmentation appears more usual in both languages, elucidating that children prefer less blank spaces in their writing than classic writing conventions demand. Primary school teachers need to expressly teach (conventional concepts of) word boundaries.
