Annotation

This paper discusses the marketization of Sámi culture in a Sámiland Reindeer Farm. Using a lenghty ethnography, it distinguishes various scripts employed within the tourist encounter to handle tensions regarding host authenticity, host-tourist cooperation, and the multilingual context, i.e. the interaction between English as a tourist lingua franca, Finnish as national language, and to a confined level the local Inari and Northern Sámi languages. It is asserted that the interests connected with creating cultural tourism are possibly higher in native, minority language contexts.
