This paper offers an empirically-based diachronic case study of the development of Hong Kong English, relying upon the four parameters in Schneider's (2007) Dynamic Model, i.e. sociopolitical context, identity constructions, sociolinguistic situations, and linguistic impact. The study questions the precision of Schneider's account of Hong Kong English evolution, and more commonly, the pertinency of the Dynamic Model to outer ring settings.
