Annotation

Though American students awaited their interactions with a host family during an eight-week summer homestay in Luxembourg to partly function like family, they operated as friendly, guest–host, or tenant–landlord relationships. Several factors eased and limited their chances to communicate with their hosts. Students’ expectations concerning the homestay also seem partly formed by the language employed to detail the agreement.
