This paper contests Frye's New Comedy Model for comic art as the symbolic lap of Western comic tradition, as his dominant quasi-Oedipal plot is no settled matter. This seriously impacts critics' analyses or theories on literary and folk art forms, or historic works on Western comic forms, based on it.
