Annotation
Taking American slavery as a case study, this paper presents an existentialist account of freedom, oppression and the role of (disruptive) humor against oppression. Humor may serve as (non-violent) stronghold against oppression's rise and tenacity by impairing the absolutist position on human nature upheld via the use of commanding and “imperative” language and action.
