This article delineates the essential connection between prosody and (im)politeness and briefly reviews this research field. It provides various theoretical concepts, pertinent to the comprehension of (im)politeness in fixed frameworks (chiefly in conversation) and discusses some studies on prosodic values like intonation patterns, pitch, duration and speech rate in different languages.
