This paper discusses the pragmatic functions of pitch at tone unit boundaries in L2 Spanish (in phone restaurant bookings) spoken by Swedish learners, as compared to L1 Swedish and L1 Spanish. Several kinds of possibly negative transfer could be forecasted for Swedish learners of L2 Spanish. Evident transfer patterns are also found, which are further intensified by insecurity effects owing to L2 speaking.
