This paper selected 4 subtypes of online privacy abuse to elucidate children’s coping responses to related yet ever more intricate situations, distinctions linked to whether situations implicated peers or strangers, whether children were straight dupes of hacked accounts, or receivers of unwanted or uncivil messages posted from forged profiles and/or hacked accounts. This choice was also made to generate a more comprehensive coping typology for the EU Kids Online III project.
