Annotation

Teachers' preferences in one Sabaot dominated Kenyan primary school are to move learners as soon as possible from mother tongue to Kiswahili and English medium of instruction (MOI), although learners do not sufficiently understand instruction in English, which leads to classroom code-switching. Ethnographic data from teachers' actual practice in Science and Mathematics courses, indicate that policy-makers should enable teachers to offer learners' first language the deserved attention.
