Annotation

This study discusses local taiwanese language education policy and planning, with a special emphasis on the respective impact of democratization, human rights advance and identity politics. Wedged between Mandarin – for instruction, public affairs and progressively home usage– and the international English language, the Taiwanese 'mother tongues' are increasingly acquired, taught and employed as second languages.
