The ‘intercultural’ being nowadays analysed, inter alia, with regard to intersubjectivity, identity construction, power relations and context, this paper suggests using discursive pragmatics to explore how (both ‘local’ and international) intercultural communication university students in two European countries, establish interculturality online throughout various chat sessions. Students are required to construct and ‘protect’ their national and ethnic identities yet also compose each other's perceptions.
