Annotation

This paper examines how rural migrants in post-soviet Bishkek are discursively constructed and depicted in the language of enduring (mainly ethnic Kyrgyz) Russian-speaking inhabitants as culturally, linguistically and behaviorally 'different'. It also explores migrants' counter-self portayals and their position within a changing city.
