Tabors and Snow’s developmental sequential second-language acquisition process and language maintenance and shift theories have been applied to this case study of the author's second-generation British Bangladeshi child's language shift from monolingual Bengali to almost monolingual English, within a few months after moving to the UK. Despite her lack of competence in Bengali, Safa still preserves a solid ethnic Bangladeshi identity.
