Revealing connections between state and language politics over various historical Lithuanian periods, this paper discusses how the notion of one “good, proper language” in current Post-Soviet Lithuanian society, marked by manifold language (sub)cultures, ever more constitutes a metaphor for the ubiquitous conformity of the Soviet period.
