This paper examines the interplay of 5 learner variables with opinions on the need for lexical, phonological, morphosyntactic, and pragmatic precision in oral foreign speech production (here L2 German in US university students) for four goals: understandability and agreeableness (respectively) to native speakers (NSs), an A course rate, and a feeling of personal attainment.
