This paper discusses 25 to 35 year old native Greek Facebook users' (para)linguistic reception of birthday wishes, as displayed in their posted wall responses. Rather than following the politic conduct found in other languages, such as English, of personally thanking their friends, they use, for this culture-bound phenomenon, contextualization cues in order to establish politeness frames and footings by effectively reciprocating the received wishes.
