This article fruitfully applies the concept of ‘acts of positioning’ (Davis & Harré 1990) to an analysis of identity construction in 474 Facebook status updates (SUs) of twenty individuals residing in Switzerland and the UK, demonstrating how individuals use language to position themselves in five main ways, i.e., underlining facets of their personality, recreation endeavors, sense of humor, job and relationship.
