Annotation

This paper discusses the context dependency and the various functions of Japanese men’s language, stressing the importance of the particular nature of the mixed-gender talk in exploring these aspects. In direct talk e.g., it issues linguistic resources for establishing traditional masculinities, whilst in direct quotation, it may be employed as an involvement or entertainment strategy or to reinforce solidarity.
