This paper argues that besides content, other facets of political joke-telling could be considered when examining its social functions and goals, namely the used subgenres and speakers’ unprompted comments. This corpus-based analysis unveils the multifunctionality of Greek debt crisis jokes: they critically ponder the current Greek sociopolitical situation, reinforce solidarity amidst Greek speakers, amuse them, and boost their morale.
