The subject of this paper is a form of support, which has received relatively little attention: one person's support of another's action. It is argued that this support type is best explained (leastwise in some cases) as a speech act, and the relations of this kind of speech act to expressions of evaluative judgment are discussed. There is interplay between pragmatic and ethical aspects of public expression.
