This study addresses teachers’ responsive matching gestures in Swedish as a second language classrooms. First, they are employed as devices tying teachers’ actions to students’ prior actions, and are resources for interactive co-engagement display, thus preserving and supporting intersubjectivity. Second, they are employed in second language acquisition situations for presenting learnables via the underlining of an alternative way of relating and displaying something in that language.
