This paper sets out to distinguish onomatopoeias from interjections from a semantic and grammatical viewpoint. To this end, various perspectives, pertaining to diverse linguistic schools like Cognitive Linguistics, Relevance Theory, Dependency Grammar and Theory of Enunciative Operations, will be shown in order to start a dialog between those metalinguistic discourses, provide an overview of the analyses of interjections, and clarify why onomatopoeias are not interjections.
