This study focuses on first speakers' “post-proposal uncertainty displays", which frequently anticipate proposal drop. Recipients' response options to master, confirm, or banish these doubts affect first speakers' implicit allegations of rights to direct the local interactional agenda. The study concludes by debating the idea of proximal deontics with regard to other connected notions.
