Annotation

It is argued from a relevance-theoretic viewpoint that the information held in Twitter hashtags may help readers infer both explicitly and implicitly conveyed meaning, and generate stylistic effects. Hashtags ease the use of an informal interpersonal style, even in the mostly anonymous Twitter context, by revealing to readers intended contextual assumptions.
