Annotation
This brief ‘conceptual’ article on the status of ‘subjectivity’ in language underlines differences and links between some of the main modern subjectivity concepts, especially the ‘general’ ones (cfr. Traugott (1989), Traugott and Dasher (2002)) and the particular one(s) as assumed in the context of modal expressions' analysis. The article then focuses on the ‘functional’ role in language use of the modality/attitude-linked aspect, concentrating on its discursive status. It finally discusses how the main subjectivity concepts connect, and how this can solely be grasped with regard to both their conceptual and discursive status.
