Annotation
This paper examines 1454 adult multilinguals' language choices for (emotional) inner speech. Though L1 is used more frequently for emotional inner speech, LX can obtain that prerogative. Language selection for (emotional) inner speech is significantly affected by self-perceived proficiency, discerned emotionality, age of onset, acquisitional context, socialization and general use. The impact of age, gender and education appears weaker and dispersed.
