Drawing from a corpus of Serbian newspapers and magazines as well as from face-to-face interactions, this study argues that the Serbian discourse marker bre adds to the pertinence of its host utterance as a procedural restriction on the construction of a higher-level explicature which conveys a speaker's specific attitude towards the addressee.
